Current actions of the NOW Mayors’ Network

Digital Summer Meeting – We drive local action!

One of the main principles of the NOW Mayors’ Network is to drive local change by replicating successful practices. Therefore, in our summer meeting on 15 June 2020 we presented all information necessary to implement practice-approved projects and offer a space for discussion between experts and network members.

Leading a Municipality in Times of Corona

As a response to the current Corona crisis and its impact on the political, social and economic life in our communities we offer a series of webinars under the title “Leading a Municipality in Times of Corona”. The webinars provide mayors and local experts with crucial learnings to successfully lead a municipality. They create a space for dialogue to transfer knowledge, learnings and experiences and to rethink and redesign all aspects of social cohesion.

Coping with the crisis

The Innovation in Politics Institute in cooperation with Act.Now has launched the Europe-wide online platform innovationinpolitics.eu/crisis to address the non-medical, secondary problems of the coronavirus crisis as a service for political decision makers. Under the motto “Coping with the Crisis”, the platform collects best practices from politics, business and civil society.

Mayors manage COVID-19

It also confirms our conviction that it is crucial to stand together and not only live in but live as a community. Showing support, solidarity and efforts to strengthen social cohesion are more important than ever to overcome this crisis. We share video reports from our member municipalities under the hashtag #mayorsmanagCOVID (see playlist on Facebook or YouTube)

About the NOW Mayors’ Network

Communities thrive when acceptance of diversity and equal opportunities exist. They create safe spaces and a healthy environment for people to interact positively and support one another.

– Vision of the NOW Mayors’ Network

The NOW Mayors’ Network is a value-based and action-oriented community established in 2016. It includes members from 13 countries stretching from the Middle East to Northern Europe. The Network supports its members in promoting peaceful, cohesive and prosperous communities following these 5 principles:

We are connected across borders.

Networking and exchanging knowledge help us build on each other’s success and broaden our horizons. We are local leaders in Europe and the MENAT region who interact, think together and learn from one another.

Diversity is our strength.

It is our firm conviction that everyone in our municipalities regardless of their social background, religion or origin can contribute to the community. We share ideas of how to create mutual acceptance among different groups and help each other promote the value of diversity.

We strengthen social cohesion to counteract polarisation and exclusion.

Social cohesion is the backbone of stability and prosperity. Instead of antagonising each other, people will use their energy and capacity productively to serve the common good when they feel respected and given opportunities. We are a network sharing the same values against those who divide our communities.

It is on us – we drive local change.

We are local leaders who proactively shape our municipalities with smart initiatives to achieve local change. As members of the network promote the replication of successful practices and help administrations in well thought out action planning and implementation.

We involve young people from all walks of life.

They are the main drivers of change and they are the leaders of tomorrow. We encourage and support each other and our staff to activate the potential of local youth by including young people in planning and decision-making.
